Teen Leadership Training

Swaziland Teen Club is growing! Doug has been working VERY hard to secure funding, to build capacity by creating job opportunities, and to open new support group sites in order to provide services to HIV positive teens in Swaziland. Mbabane's Teen Club has been rolling steadily along, and the Manzini Club opened in January. Next month, in June, a third Teen Club will be opening in Hlati and in September a fourth will form in the Lubombo region. But, I think that Doug's happiest moment was in mid-April when he hosted a 10-day Peer Leadership Training for ~70 positive teens from around the country at Hawane Nature Reserve. Doug and a volunteer from the States, Shari, wrote and received a grant from the National Emergency Response Council on HIV/AIDS [NERCHA] for the training. The goal of the 10 days was to train approximately 15 teens from each region of the country so that they can become peer leaders in each of their respective communities' Teen Clubs. Overall, the training was a huge success and there are scores of empowered teens awaiting the opportunity to lead a support group in their community. Swaziland Teen Club is growing!
